Robo Junior.  This clever robot "sees" with infrared sensors.  When assembled, the line tracer robot follows a path laid out for it along the floor.  Robo Junior has two infra-red emmitters and receivers built into the front, which project an infra-red beam onto the floor.  The receivers pick up the reflected beam and can thus work out where the line is.     

You learn the principles of infra red sensor, and infra red LEDs.
